Gaziantep Menengic Coffee, a traditional Turkish beverage made from roasted terebinth fruits, has become Türkiye's 29th product to receive a geographical indication from the European Union, officials announced Monday.
“Menengic Coffee, beloved for its unique aroma and flavor, has now been registered in Europe, beyond our borders. We will continue to increase the number of geographically indicated products and promote them internationally, said Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ibrahim Yumakli.
Rifat Hisarciklioglu, vice president of Eurochambres, the Association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, noted ongoing efforts to secure EU status for 66 more products and six traditional product names.
The coffee is known for its rich, nutty flavor and creamy texture and is naturally caffeine-free, making it a popular choice for those seeking a softer experience.
The EU's geographical indication system protects regional specialties, promoting authenticity.
Gaziantep Menengic Coffee joins other celebrated Turkish products like Gaziantep Baklava and Malatya Apricots.
